Highland Park Baptist Church

3-19-14

*Ellen Groh (retired in FL) recently had some procedures requiring hospitalization to help with a circulation problem.  Stents were put into her right and left legs which should help in her circulation and hopefully avoid other infections.  Send her a card at her new home:  Riverfront Nursing & Rehab Center, 105 – 15th St. East, Room 210, Bradenton, FL 34208.

*Continue to pray for Andy & Holly Rist (SEND in Ukraine) in the midst of this political upheaval in Ukraine.  Pray for the judicial system as today, 3/19, there will be a ruling concerning the legitimacy of the provisionary gov’t.  If the High Court rules against the current president and prime minister, they could quickly face another crisis.  PTL they have had good opportunities to speak/work with the students at Kiev Seminary, as well as chances to witness for Christ in their neighborhood.

*Pray for Jenni & Ade Olowo (GCM in TX) as they spend the next week in Nigeria, serving as the US-based Coordinators of HELP West Africa to help orphanages to function in a Christ-honoring and sustainable way.  Pray for unity as they meet with the new Coordinator of the orphanage Care Center and speak to the various needs of the orphans.  Pray for God’s provision in finances for this trip and another one planned this summer, as they take 9 students and recent graduates from their TX church to Nigeria to share the Gospel, disciple children, and love those in the HIV/AIDS community.

*Josh Javery (SEND in Poland) asks for prayer as he steps out of full-time language school to part-time language school and part-time private lessons.  He is scheduled to take the country-wide B1 language exam in June.  As Josh struggles with language learning and dyslexia, he feels the Lord has granted him grace in the process.  Please pray for Josh’s mom in MI who has been struggling with her health since the fall about 4 yrs. ago.  She has never fully recovered and has lost much of her functioning.  Encourage Josh at joshuajavery@hotmail.com.

*Kevin & Meghan Armstrong (GCM at WSU) ask for prayer that 15 students would participate in their summer Leadership Training program.  Pray for Shiv, Nate and Jake – students at Wayne who are training to be small group leaders.  Pray with them for a goal of having 50 WSU students who are a part of the core of their church.  The Armstrongs will be with us for our GMF in May!

*Pray for Kirk & Laura Slater (WorldVenture in Uganda), for ministry and personal burdens they are carrying right now.  They are thankful for opportunities for Kirk to speak into the life and ministry of Agape Baptist Church as one of the Elders and Laura is discipling several of the hard-to-reach married ladies there.  Pray for consistency in those meetings.  Pray for the church association in Congo—challenging both politically and relationally—and for Kirk’s French to improve as he travels to Congo for various meetings conducted in a higher level of French than he is familiar with.

*Pray for S. & E. N. (Africa).  They are thankful that the boys have been allowed to continue on at their new school and for their adjustment.  They love it there!  Pray that they would find long-term housing in their new ministry setting and that they would be an encouragement to their new teammates.  Even though they are in a new area, they keep meeting Mandinka speakers.  Pray for these relationships and for open hearts.  Pray for good health, as E and the baby have recently been sick.  They are thankful for a better access to doctors where they are!

*We have car needs for 2 missionaries:  Will & Nan Grant (+ 2 small children) who will be in MI for a few weeks in May (here for our GMF, too!) and P.O. who will be in the mission apts. from mid-May – mid-August.  Call Loosha in the Global Ministries office (248-357-5464 ext. 228) if you can help!
